Dornier Do 217

The Do 217 was a devellopment out of the Do 17 and was the standard night bomber in the west from 1941 on. Although the first flight was in August 1938 the Do 217 E was taken into service in March 1941 for the untis of II. KG 40 for maritime warfare. Beginning 1942 KG 2 made their attacks against England from their bases in the Netherlands. The first Baedecker attacks were started in the spring of 1942 with Do 217 E against british citys. Next versions wre the Do 217 K with a new constructed bow and enforced defensiv armament and the stronger Do 217 M. Both types could be loaded with various types of bombs.
