Junkers Ju 290

In the year 1936 Junkers began to convert the strategic bomber Ju 89 in an airliner (Ju 90). With the death of General Wever the Ju 89 project was cnaceled soon and the Ju 90 became the star of the Deutsche Lufthansa. In 1939 the airliner Ju 90 S was equipped with new wings and the BMW-801 Motor. About several prototypes the military tranporter Ju 290 A-0 and A-1 were develloped, which saw first service during the battle of Stalingrad. The Ju 290 A-2 was a sea-reconnaissance plane with five 20-mm-MG 151 and six 13-mm-MG 131. Several versions followed with the A-7 having a bow-canopy made completly out of glass. The A-8 had as standard armament 10 MG 151 und one (ore three) MG 131, more as any bomber before. The B-version was a equipped with a pressurized cabin, RADAR and was able to fire the HS-293-glyding bomb or other air-ground-guided weapons.
